Experts Call to Shift to Solar and Wind Energy Use to Reduce Carbon Emissions

The United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) called for a more responsible and increased use of renewable energy likes wind and solar power.

The report made by the IPCC also argued that the current trends on the use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions will only be mitigated effectively if a shift towards renewable energy will take place. They also reiterated the use of alternative energy sources other than natural gas.

This is the third report made by the IPCC. The first report has highlighted that climate change is not a product of natural temperature shifts; it is a product of man-made interventions. The second report, which was released in March, discussed the dangerous implications of climate change, not only for countries but for the people, as well. In this report, the IPCC also stated that global warming could produce effects which are "severe, pervasive, and irreversible", as quoted by BBC.

All three reports constitute the Fifth Assessment Report, an expansive study about the causes and effects of climate change.

This latest report by the IPCC will be discussed in the press conference in Berlin. Experts predict that the report will also highlight the fact that if governments won't make any action to combat climate, temperatures across the globe may rise by as much as 2 degrees Celsius.

The report will also make some recommendations that organizations and governments can follow in order to come up with plans in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Solar energy is considered a safe energy source as does not cause pollution. Furthermore, unlike oil reserves which can dry out in years to come, solar energy is forever, so long as the sun is there. However, it also has its disadvantages and one of it is that it may not be reliable for countries that naturally have cloudy skies like the UK. Wind energy, on the other hand, does not cause pollution as well but is more expensive because of the infrastructures needed to store energy.
