A gunman fatally shot three people at two Jewish centers on Sunday in Kansas City in what police believe might have been an anti-Semitic attack, NBCNews.com reported.
Three victims were shot and killed in Overland Park at a Jewish community center and retirement home, police said.
City spokesman Sean Reilly said two people died at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City campus and one died at Village Shalom -- a retirement community a few blocks from the campus.
Additionally, a 16-year-old boy was injured and listed in critical condition at Overland Park Medical Center.
Officials announced that a person of interest is in custody but have not released the name of the suspect.
A local TV station spoke with a man who said the gunman pointed his gun at him and shot his car, smashing the windows. He did not suffer any injuries, KSHB-TV said.
Local reporter Andres Gutierrez told MSNBC he saw a man being taken into custody by police who yelled "Heil Hitler" to terrified people watching the incident unfold.
According to NBC News, the FBI is assisting in the investigation now. Though they have not confirmed a motive for the attack yet, authorities are expected to hold a press conference on Sunday night.
The Jewish center used their Facebook page to notify users of the situation.
"There has been a shooting incident at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City near the White Theatre entrance," the center said. "The building remains on lockdown. The police are currently on the scene. We will post more information as it becomes available to us. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers."
