Dejected over losing a dream home property bid, a woman who was once listed among the top U.S. mothers, placed an advertisement calling for men to rape the new buyer of the house.
Kathy Rowe, a 52-year-old San Diego native, says she was devastated after the 'perfect house' she needed for her mentally disabled daughter and a heart-attack surviving husband was bought by young couple at a much higher bid in 2011. It made Rowe so angry that she wanted revenge.
Initially it started off with petty pranks such as sending religious missionaries to the couple's house, stopping their mails, posting Valentine's Day cards under the victim's husband name to the wives of neighbors. But these pranks took a criminal turn after Rowe put a fake ad under the owner's name on an adult dating website. The ad, 'Carmel Valley Freak Show,' with the address and photos of the lady owner of the house asked men to come over for sex and described fantasies of sexual assault.
Her actions were criminal, according to prosecutors. Rowe posed as the wife in the online adult entertainment ads titled "Carmel Valley Freak Show," inviting strange men over to the couple's home for sex and describing scenarios of a rape fantasy to those who responded..
The ad received two responses. Replying to one potential interest Rowe said, "I love to be surprised and have a man just show up at my door and force his way in the door and on me, totally taking me while I say no," the court documents show.
A 28-year-old responders went up at the house and found it locked. He then showed up at the house later that day. The victim's husband answered the door and the man then made up an excuse for his coming. He dropped a message on the ad. To this Rowe said, "Once in awhile my husband drops by during the day to see if he can catch me in the act."
The legal authorities charged Rowe with soliciting forcible rape and sodomy. A Superior Court judge previously dismissed those charges prior to the trial saying that he did not have a strong suspicion that Rowe "had the specific intent to cause the two men to commit any kind of sexual assault" on the woman who bought that house.
However, defending her act Rowe said she was in pain and grief the moment she lost to the couple. She had found the house to be the perfect as it is single story and could accommodate her disabled daughter, and had a pool so that her husband could exercise following a heart attack, states Huffington Post citing the Associated Press.
"The anger and grief over losing that house (and especially in the way we did) drove me to behave in a very childish way and to do what I thought were childish pranks to let off steam and ease the pain," Rowe said. "I never intended for them to be hurtful."
According to the U-T San Diego, in 2006, Rowe made it to the 50 best moms in the U.S. list.
