Man Tries to Jump from Plane Mid-Air

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Sacramento from Chicago was diverted to Omaha, Nebraska after a passenger reportedly tried a mid-air exit, Sunday.

The flight 722 landed on Eppley Airfield and the crew removed the passenger from the plane, reports NBC Chicago.

According to witnesses, they heard shouts from the back of the plane and a flight attendant screamed "Help me! Help me!" as the man tried to jump out of the plane through the exit door.

The flight consisted of five crew members and 134 passengers after the incident and it reached the destination safely nearly two hours late, reports the Associated Press.

"Some gentleman just decided that he wanted us to visit the Lord today and ... open up the back hatch while we were all already up in the air," Monique Lawler, another passenger in the flight who witnessed the incident, told KABC-TV after reaching her final destination in Los Angeles.

She added the man behaved in a strange manner and onetime he came out of the loo completely soaked.

"I ran to the back of the plane. At that point in time I was joined by about two other people," Dr. Scott Porter, another passenger, said. "We basically tackled the -- I don't want to say gentleman -- but the guy who was back there and pinned him down and restrained him." "He was going to do bad things to the plane so it was pretty scary," he said.

It is unclear whether the man will face any charges. The airline did not give any more details about the incident.
