Florida Man, Bakari D. Parks, Arrested In Shooting Of 4-Year-Old Boy

A man in Tampa, Florida was arrested on Monday in connection to the shooting of a 4-year-old boy, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Bakari D. Parks, 23, was detained around 11 p.m. after turning himself into authorities. He faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Earlier on Monday, Renaldo Moore got caught in the crossfire of a feud between Parks and another man and was struck by a stray bullet around 11 a.m.

As a precaution, the nearby Just Elementary School and Stewart Middle School were placed on lockdown.

It is unknown what Parks and the other man were fighting about.

According to the Times, Parks has a lengthy list of criminal activity. He has been arrested nine times in Florida on charges of burglary, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault.

On Tuesday, he remained in Hillsborough County Jail without bail.

Local residents told Bay 9 News that gunfire and arguments are not rare in their neighborhoods.

"It happens up and down these streets," said resident Shirley Harilal. "Chestnut and Oregon. Shooting at people, that's normal. Sometimes I sit in the house and hear it and be like, 'oh, they're at it again."

As the number of shootings pile up, Police Chief Jane Castor is calling on the public to stop the violence.

"There is a level of responsibility (and) you can't allow this to happen in your neighborhood," Castor said. "The good people in this neighborhood far outweigh the any of the bad guys, the knuckleheads that are walking around here, and they need to give us information to get the bad guys off the street."
