Chrysler Recalls 469,000 SUVs on All International Stores to Update Gearshift

Chrysler Group LLC, top 3 U.S car manufacturer based in Michigan, is recalling around 469,000 SUVs distributed in their stores internationally after discovering that some circuit boards were broadcasting signals that activate unintended gear shifts to neutral. This announcement was released last Saturday.

These vehicles are their 2006 to 2010 model of Jeep Commanders and 2005 to 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokees. Their records said that 295,000 of these are in the United States, 4,200 are in Mexico, 28,500 are in Canada and the rest are outside North America.

Chrysler had recorded 26 accidents and 2 damages associated to the gearshift trouble. The good news is that no one had died yet because of this.

This recall was the largest so far after the November recall of 900,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty SUVs due to airbags setting out involuntarily.

The car manufacturer is also planning to recall 532 units of their 2013-model-year Ram 1500 pickup trucks sold in the U.S and Canada to check and replace the windshield. Apparently, the windshield has issues with its defrosting and defogging parts.

Furthermore, 5,330 right-hand-drives 2008 to 2012 Jeep Wranglers will also be recalled to mount dust shields that will put off dust buildup as it affects the function of the airbag. These vehicles are mainly used for mail delivery in the U.S.

There were no accidents and injuries reported associating Ram and Wrangler but they decided to recall these vehicles as a preventive measure.

The company’s representatives will contact the affected customers and will do all the repairs free of charge.

Chrysler is the smallest among the “Big Three” of the car manufacturers in the U.S, the other two are Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Product lines include Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, MOPAR, and ST. Last 2012, the company has sold over 1.6 million vehicles in the U.S alone.

Chrysler reported a sudden drop in their first quarter turnover due to a new vehicle launch agenda but the company expects to recover before the year ends. Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Chrysler and its Italian parent Fiat that they are now considering a buyout by June 2014.
