Los Angeles (56-24) sits third in the Western Conference. They trail No. 2 Oklahoma City by one game, and with two remaining, could supplant the Thunder for the second seed. In addition to the possibility of securing a higher seed, the team is looking to roll into the postseason with momentum after losing two of their last four games.
"We're still playing for something," Clippers guard Chris Paul said, via ESPN. "We can keep building confidence on defense. We're at our best when we're running and getting stop."
Denver (36-44), meanwhile, will be watching the playoffs from home. Nuggets coach Brian Shaw dealt with myriad injuries in his inaugural season, including season-ending injuries to Nate Robinson, Danilo Gallinari and JaVale McGee. Ty Lawson, who leads the team in scoring, has also been sidelined for the last four games with a sprained ankle.
Nonetheless, Shaw commended his players for not quitting.
"I'm proud of them and the way they're finishing up this season," Shaw said. "I think this is exactly what we wanted to see ending up the season to carry over into next season, win or lose, the kind of effort it's going to take and the togetherness we're going to need to be successful."
Denver heads into Tuesday's contest looking for their fourth straight win after defeating Houston, Golden State and Utah.
