The Chicago Cubs play the New York Yankees twice on Wednesday in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 1:05 p.m. ET, followed by the second game at 7:05 p.m. ET. Listen to the live radio broadcasts below.
New York (7-6) bounced back from their three-game series loss to Baltimore by winning three of their next four games against Boston. Weather postponed Game 1 on Tuesday, turning Wednesday into a doubleheader.
Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 3.21 ERA) starts the first game on Wednesday. Though the numbers for Tanaka are solid, his stat line would be even better if not for the shaky starts in both of his last two games.
The first-year pro gave up three runs in two innings during his debut against Toronto, and he gave up a three-run homer to Baltimore in the second inning of his second start.
"If you look at the first two starts, the beginning of the game, I'm missing my spots and giving up runs," Tanaka told MLB.com through a translator. "I need to make my adjustments, try not to do that. Try to keep the damage to a minimum -- or no damage at all -- at the beginning of the game."
Chicago (4-8) sends Jason Hammel to the mound to oppose Tanaka. The veteran has played well so far for his new team, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.63 ERA in two starts. Hammel is coming off Wednesday's 7-5 win against Pittsburgh, who managed only three runs on three hits against him through seven innings.
Playing the Yankees is nothing new for Hammel, who had stints with Tampa Bay and Baltimore.
"They're a perennial powerhouse and find a way to win, and the organization is committed to their players. That's how they do it," Hammel said, according to the Associated Press. "That being said, there's still a way to beat them. I've faced them many times and had some success."
The starting pitchers for the second game are Yankees' Michael Pineda (1-1, 1.50) and Cubs' Travis Wood (0-1, 2.92).
