The Cleveland Browns appear unlikely to select a quarterback with the fourth pick of the 2014 NFL draft. They reportedly plan to wait on a quarterback and are eying Teddy Bridgewater, Derek Carr and AJ McCarron with their No. 26 or No. 35 pick.
Recent reports indicate teams are hesitant to use a top-five pick on any quarterback in this year's draft. Cleveland, one of four quarterback-needy teams with a top-five pick, is hopeful Bridgewater, whose stock has seemingly plummeted, will be available at No. 26.
It's not improbable -- the New York Jets snagged quarterback Geno Smith last year in the beginning of the second round, which nobody thought would happen.
Cleveland likes Bridgewater, but not enough to use their No. 4 pick. Part of the reason for that is because Carr, who the Browns reportedly love, would likely still be available toward the end of the first round.
"They really love him. The feeling with many in football is that Cleveland will take Carr with its 26th pick," Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report wrote on Wednesday. "Other quarterbacks are rising quickly, but he might be rising the fastest. He has charmed almost every team he's met with and his arm and accuracy are underrated."
McCarron is another possibility for the Browns. The former Alabama quarterback will workout for Cleveland on Wednesday, per ESPN, and will visit the team next week, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
It's also possible the Browns can get away with waiting until the second round to draft a quarterback.
"If Bridgewater is still on the board at No. 26, it's unlikely that the Browns would pick Carr or McCarron ahead of him at that spot," ESPN's Joe Kaiser wrote on Wednesday. "But if Bridgewater is already selected, the Browns could address another position at No. 26 and wait until the second round to land their next QB of the future."
The draft begins on Thursday, May 8.
