Ford is building 1,964 units of limited edition Mustang to mark the pony car's 50 years of operation.
Ford, one of the biggest and renowned car making companies around the world, is celebrating the 50-year anniversary of its iconic muscle car, Mustang. The car maker is building 1,964 units of limited edition Mustang GT, honoring the year it first unveiled at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Ford revealed the 50 Year Limited Edition at the New York International Auto Show, Wednesday, AP reports. Choosing the right place and the right time brings back the memories of the first launch of the popular brand.
Besides the limited production, Ford's new Mustang will come in one of two signature colors of Ford's logo, white or blue. The silver jubilee anniversary had a grand unveiling with the company's executive chairman Bill Ford appearing in a bright yellow 2015 Mustang convertible on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, earlier on Wednesday. The last time any car was up there was when Ford displayed a Mustang convertible in 1965, making the 2015 model pony car the first in the last five decades.
Taking the 2015 Mustang to one of the top floors of the iconic Midtown Manhattan's 103-story skyscraper was anything but an easy task. A team was put together to split up the car into five pieces in order to fit it in the building's elevators. Then, the Mustang was reassembled late at night, when the deck was closed to the visitors. According to AP, the car will be on display until Friday.
The 2015 Limited Edition Mustang will feature the signature muscle look and be complimented by the chrome highlights around the windows, grille and tail lights. The car will also carry a faux gas cap badge on the rear, like on the original Mustang. Ford will be letting buyers choose from manual or automatic transmission.
The Michigan-based automobile company will start manufacturing the limited edition models later this year, first from Ford's assembly line of the all-new 2015 models. The company is yet to decide on how to sell the cars and what price tag will they carry.
