Game of Thrones Recap: 'The Bear and the Fair Maiden'

******SPOILER ALERT*********

Normally we would never recommend you leave a page on HNGN to go elsewhere, but if you haven't watched this Sunday's Game of Thrones you probably don't want to go any further. There be spoilers up ahead, you have been warned.

The episode opens up with the Wildlings marching away from the wall. Ygritte asks Jon Snow how far they have to go to Winterfell. Snow responds that he doesn't know because normally they would take the King's Road. Ygritte goes on to mock him for marching with drums and banners, Ygritte and Jon Snow tease each other in this way for most of their time on screen together this episode. Snow calls out Orell for cutting him lose on the wall, Orell responds that he shouldn't be sulking about it and vaguely threatens Jon Snow.

In a tent Robb, Talisa, Catelyn and the Tullys discuss how the rain has delayed their trip and how the Frey's will be upset. After taking some shots about Lord Frey being the least pleasant man in the Seven Kingdoms, Robb and Talisa are left alone. Talisa is writing a letter home while Robb is trying to plan the next battle when Talisa asks if Robb will ever come home with her. Talisa says that her mother would love to meet Robb... and her grandson.

Orell talks to Ygritte about how she shouldn't be with Jon Snow. Orell admits that he's jealous and that he would be a much better match for her. When Ygritte says she loves Jon Snow Orell responds, "You won't love him as much when you find out what he really is."

In King's Landing, Sansa is crying and complaining about her miserable situation, having to marry Tyrion instead of Loras, to Margaery. Margaery tells Sansa about how her children could be lords of both Casterly Rock and Winterfell Sansa cringes at the idea of having to make children with Tyrion. Margaery does her best to convince Sansa that Tyrion's years of experience with prostitutes will be a positive thing for her, Sansa is naïve and confused as usual.

Bronn and Tyrion are bantering back and forth about Tyrion having to marry Sansa. Bronn suggests that Tyrion would like to bed Sansa. Tyrion: "She's just a child."

Bronn: "Taller than you."

Tyrion: "She's a tall child."

Tywin pays Joffrey a visit as the king sits on the Iron Throne. Joffrey is upset that Tywin has been having small council meetings near Tywin's office instead of in the proper chamber; Joffrey doesn't want to have to climb all those stairs if he were to attend a meeting. Tywin takes a couple of steps toward his grandson and it's abundantly clear who is in charge as he says, "We could arrange to have you carried up." Joffrey asks about the rumors he has heard about Daenerys and her dragons, Tywin says it is nothing to worry about.

Daenerys and her soldiers are standing outside the city of Yunkai. Jorah says they don't need to attack Yunkai. Daenerys asks how many slaves are in town, Jorah responds 200,000, and Daenerys says there are 200,000 reasons to attack. The head of Yunkai is carried out to meet Daenerys; he passes all of the Unsullied and looks petrified by the time he reaches the meeting with Daenerys. Daenerys is offered gold and as many ships as she wants as long as she leaves Yunkai and never returns.

Daenerys makes a counter offer, accepting the gold and ships but also demanding all of the slaves are freed. The head of Yunkai is furious and takes back his offer and threatens to make Daenerys a slave after he and his "powerful friends" defeat them. The dragons are visibly upset and scream at him.

"You swore me safe conduct!" The head of Yunkai yells.

"My dragons made no promises and you threatened their mother," Daenerys says. The head of Yunkai leaves.

Tyrion gives Shae a gold necklace. She responds by calling them gold chains. As Tyrion tries to explain how they can stay together while he is forced to marry Sansa Shae will have none of it. She storms off saying that she will always be Tyrion's whore and once he is done with her he'll get rid of her.

Melisandre and Gendry are talking on a ship as it navigates through the wreckage of others ships in Blackwater Bay. Melisandre asks Gendry if he misses his father's house. Gendry explains he is a bastard as Melisandre points to the castle at King's Landing, "That was your father's house." Gendry learns that Robert Baratheon was his father.

Arya is still bickering with the members of the Brotherhood without Banners. They tell her about the Red God and Arya says that her one and only god is Death. As the members of the Brotherhood leave to attack a Lannister raiding party Arya runs away from camp. As she is running through the forest arms reach out and grab her. It's The Hound.

Jaime says goodbye to Brienne before leaving for King's Landing. He promises that he will still return the Stark girls to their mother as payment of the debt he owes Brienne for still being alive.

In the torture chamber Theon is taken off of the wall by two girls. The two girls treat him tenderly and speak of his manhood. While Theon obviously doesn't trust them at first they eventually convince him they mean well. Once they are naked and all having a good time the torturer comes back in. Theon begs for mercy but as the camera pans out it is implied that Theon has his manhood taken away from him by a very large knife.

As the Wildlings march past a decrepit windmill Ygritte asks Jon Snow if it's a palace. He explains that Winterfell has much larger towers and that the windmill was nothing. Jon Snow then launches into a diatribe about how "you" won't win if "you" attack the wall. Ygritte looks hurt and reminds him that if they attack The Wall all of "us" will die.

As Bran and his motley crew are setting up camp Osha complains about how Jojen Reed does nothing but fill Bran's head with black magic. Jojen denies this and announces that they must go beyond Castle Black to find Jon Snow. Osha refuses and tells the story of why she came over the wall; her husband turned into a white walker and tried to kill her.

Jaime decides that he has to go back to get Brienne after hearing some talk of what will likely become of her. When they arrive back they Brienne is in a pit fighting a bear with a wooden sword. As things look like they are about to turn the bear's way Jaime jumps into the pit and forces Brienne behind him. He has no weapon. Since Jaime is worth far more alive than dead his captors shoot the bear with an arrow allowing for Brienne and Jaime to escape, barely, as the bear is wounded.

All in all it was a pretty exciting episode. There was a lot going on with Jon Snow and Ygritte, things are not going to end well for them. Every interaction between them seemed to be hinting at an impending doom for them and possibly Orell will have a little something to do with that doom. This is one of the more brilliant storylines of the show in my opinion as it seems impossible to know what is going to happen. One second you feel like Jon Snow will turn on the Wildlings, the next vice versa, and then you think maybe Ygritte will turn on the Wildlings with Jon Snow. After every scene with Jon Snow and Ygritte I have a different theory about where their loyalties will eventually be.

As always it was good to see Bronn and Tyrion going back and forth with each other. Their relationship is probably the closest Game of Thrones gets to comic relief and seeing them match wits lightens up every episode.

What is going to happen to Theon? After the way he ended Season 2 Theon was one of the most hated men in Westeros, yet now it is impossible to not feel some empathy for him. The tortures that he has gone through have been unbelievably vicious. In an even crueler twist we have no idea who is doing the torture or why. It seems as if the torture might be done for no other reason than the sheer sadistic fun of it, hopefully we find out why soon.

It looks like Daenerys is gearing up for sending her Unsullied into battle for the first time, the Wildlings are going to get further and further from The Wall and Tywin Lannister looks like he will continue to be the real "king" of Westeros. Hopefully we'll get some more answers next week instead of just hints of what is to come.
