Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed a major PlayStation 4 update on the heels of announcing the console has surpassed more than 7 million units sold worldwide. According to Sony's news release, the tech company passed the 7-million mark as of April 16.
"The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice," Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said in a statement. "The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage. We look forward to unveiling many of these experiences to our fans in the coming months."
As for Sony's PS4 system update, the first news of it came during the Game Developer's Conference in March. Sony will be introducing new features with the 1.70 software update, including their SHAREfactory video editor.
"With SHAREfactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks," according to PlayStation's official blog. "Also allows you to personalize your videos by adding text, stickers, and a set of included audio tracks, as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability with PlayStation Camera. It also allows you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video."
The update will also include a new auto-download feature for pre-ordered games. PS4 users will soon be able for pre-download their pre-ordered title "up to several days prior to release," according to PlayStation's blog. You can read more information about the 1.70 software update here.
