Andre Johnson Update: Rapper in Stable Condition Following Apparent Suicide Attempt but Severed Penis Won’t be Reattached

Rapper Andre Johnson is in stable condition following an apparent suicide attempt but doctors are not able to reattach his severed penis, TMZ reports. TMZ broke the news that Johnson, who used the rap name Christ Bearer, severed his genitals and then jumped from a second-floor balcony on Apr. 16.

Johnson was a part of the Wu-Tang affiliated hip-hop group, Northstar. According to TMZ, the rapper is currently in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Los Angeles Police Sgt. William Mann told CNN that Johnson survived the jump but had serious injuries. He was found lying in a pool of blood outside a North Hollywood apartment building around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Details about what triggered the incident were not available. Neighbors told TMZ that they were all hanging out when, without warning, the rapper cut off his genitals and jumped from the building. By the time they reached Johnson, neighbors said he had managed to get up and was running around screaming.

The neighbors also told TMZ that they were not using "any hard drugs that would cause him to do such a thing." So far, Wu-Tang has not released a statement on the incident. According to US weekly, the rap group's blog had a post saying that Johnson was not affiliated with them but the post was removed. The blog now has a repost of TMZ's original story.

According to Gawker, the day before Johnson tried to allegedly take his life, he released a music video with Rugged Monk of Wul-Tang group Black Knights.

Northstar was discovered in 1998 by RZA outside a Los Angeles radio station. Johnson also rapped in the group with Meko the Pharaoh. They released their last album in 2008.
