According to a new report, "American Idol" could be getting another shakeup soon. Over recent years, the singing-competition show has switched up their judges table and could be adding a new host next season.
According to Radar Online, Ryan Seacrest might not return to his "Idol" hosting gig for Season 14. A source told the site that Seacrest "desperately wants" to leave and pursue other opportunities.
Reportedly when his $30 million two-year contract is up after this current season, he may not return to the "Idol" stage.
"Ryan is telling friends that this season of 'Idol' is likely to be his last," a source told Radar. "He's lost the passion for it, and desperately wants to do different things at this point in his career, like produce the Oscars and start developing more of his original ideas."
Seacrest has been the one constant on the show since it first premiered in 2002. He's been hosting "American Idol" for 13 seasons.
"This season of 'Idol' [is] going to be a real endurance test for Ryan," the source added. "'Idol' is holding him back. But it's also the most money he's ever been paid for anything, so he has to be a politician about it."
The source also claims that the TV personality has been scaling back on his red carpet appearances as well to make room for other things. According to Variety, Seacrest also has a deal with NBCU which will expire around the same time as his "Idol" contract.
Part of deal with NBCU requires that he make occasional appearances on the "Today" show and host "Live From the Red Carpet" specials.
"Ryan's reduced role in this year's Emmys red carpet coverage is a clear move toward a life that involves less hosting and more producing," the source explained to Radar. "He wants to transition to behind the scenes more, and is getting fed up with the 'interviewing people' part of the job, when his heart is really in the work he does as a producer."
According to Variety, even if Seacrest is considering other job opportunities besides "Idol' he is very "loyal to the show that transformed him from a relative unknown to a household name." If he does leave, the decision won't be an easy one.
