Google Trends Turns On Email Notifications To Keep Users Up-To-Date With Hottest Topics

Google has launched email notifications for its Google Trends service that keep users up-to-date about the hottest topics without having to constantly check for new updates.

Google, the biggest internet search company, is bringing an easy solution to get timely updates on the hottest news topics around the world. In an official Google Inside Search blog, the company announced email notification service for Google Trends, which allows users to see what people are searching for on a daily or monthly basis.

Google Trends covers various topics based on user's interest, ranging from the latest news from NASA or updates on your favorite football team. Register your interest with Google on the Trends page and get updates on the latest news on a monthly or weekly basis. Email notifications make it simpler for users to get the latest news at their fingertips.

In order to get started with the email notifications, users must subscribe and select any topic of interest, Hot Searches for any country, separated into three buckets, "Hottest," "Hotter" and "Hot" content, or opt to receive monthly Top Chart for any country, Google's software engineer Gavri Smith wrote on the company's blog, Friday.

Users can choose to receive notifications on Hot Searches on real-time basis, once a day or weekly. Notifications will be sent to the registered email address on Google Trends. Google's top charts subscribers will receive notifications only when there is new top chart iteration released and does not include any specific time frame.

Google's subscription page is dedicated to show all selected items in a list, which users can edit and opt out anytime. Unsubscribing any topic on Google Trends will stop email notifications for that topic, but users can also edit to change how often they would like to receive email alerts.

At first glance, the new change to Google Trends makes it look a lot like Google Alerts, which sends email notifications on specific news items. While it is unclear if the web giant plans on replacing Alerts with Trends, it seems a more predictable move considering Google is merging most of its services to focus more on lesser range of products.
