Miami begins the bid for their third straight NBA championship on Sunday. They're the favorite in the Eastern Conference to advance to the finals, which would be their fourth consecutive appearance.
Despite only losing four of their last 23 games against Charlotte, Miami isn't underestimating the young team.
"Anything before this season doesn't matter," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told the Associated Press. "They had a different team, a different coach. The only thing that matters is this year. Our last three games against them, we had to dig back from three deficits to come back and win. That has not gone lost in our preparation."
Charlotte, meanwhile, is looking for their first playoff win in franchise history. The addition of center Al Jefferson, who's averaging 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game this season, is a big reason for the Bobcats' push into the postseason.
"It's time to take it to another level," Jefferson said. "We reached one goal. Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, we are one of the teams that stood out this year and we are proud of that. So now it's time to stick together more than ever."
