Flickr rolled out a major update for Android and iOS mobile apps bringing features aboard such as a fresh interface, video capture, improved search and seamless sharing.
Flickr, a popular photo-sharing app by Yahoo, rolled out one of the biggest updates to its Android and iOS mobile apps complete with filters, video support, new design and lot more. The update, announced last Thursday, brings the photo-sharing site at par with its rival Instagram with similar features such as easy-sharing on social networks, liking and commenting on photos, video recording and photo filters.
The new version of the mobile app gets a complete redesign on the home screen, ease of navigation and access to the app's core functions from a sidebar. The search function is tweaked to bring the right photos much sooner than in the previous version. The app locates photos based on location, time and other auto tags such as scenes and objects in the photo like car, sunset and more. With 1TB of massive storage, Flickr account holders can store more than 500,000 photos on the site. The new Auto Sync function lets users automatically upload quality photos from phone to the online account.
Flickr also adds more details to photos, such as the location, camera model used to take the snap, aperture setting, focal length and more for users to get a well-informed image at the end. Users can also share seamlessly with friends and family on social networking sites including Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook without ever leaving the app.
The updated app, Flickr 3.0 for Android and iOS, adds fourteen live filters to the camera. Users can see how the image looks even before capturing it. The camera is also complimented with real-time photo editing tools that allow changing filters, vignettes, auto-enhance, color balance and exposure, Flickr Vice President Bernardo Hernandez wrote in the company's official blog, Thursday, April 17. The latest addition to the Flickr mobile app is the 30-second video recording capability using live filters. Flickr lets users edit and delete videos with a simple tap. The new feature builds on Instagram's 15 second video recording feature.
"Whether you're new to Flickr or one of our biggest fans, we want you to know the new apps are the beginning of a great deal more to come! They represent our commitment to building new products for your changing needs and they offer a beautiful canvas for upcoming features," Hernandez wrote.
The updated Flickr apps for Android and iOS are available in respective app stores.
