A Massachusetts woman was found dead in her home on early Easter Sunday, the Lowell Sun reported.
Around 2 a.m., police were called for medical assistance at a home in Pawtucketville where they found the body of 52-year-old Elaine Sweeney.
Police Superintendent William Taylor said officers are working with the Middlesex County District Attorney's office, Massachusetts State Police, and the state medical examiner's office.
In a statement, District Attorney Marian Ryan said an autopsy was performed on Sunday but had not announced an official cause of death, pending toxicology reports. However, the Sun and Boston.com both report that Sweeney's death is being looked at as "suspicious."
No arrests have been made in the case and an investigation is ongoing, according to Ryan spokeswoman MaryBeth Long.
Paul Smith, who lives near Sweeney, said a couple and their three daughters lived in the home where Sweeney's body was discovered.
"Can you imagine something like that happening?" he told the Sun said. "Imagine the stress they're under, having to deal with this on Easter."
Another woman who lives on the street, who declined to give her name, said their neighborhood has never experienced anything out of the ordinary.
"We look out for one another," she said. "It's sad."
