A Malaysia Airlines plane carrying 166 passengers and crew on board made an emergency landing at Kuala Lumpur airport after one of the tyres in the landing gear burst, Monday.
The jetliner was bound for Bangalore, India, from Kuala Lumpur. As it took off from the airport at 10:09 p.m. local time Sunday, the tyre burst, the officials said in a statement on Malaysia Airlines' Facebook page.
The airlines officials said that the debris of the tyre was noticed on the runway at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 16 minutes after take off. The authorities immediately alerted the captain of the Boeing 737-800 and airport fire rescue services were positioned. The plane returned safely and flight MH 192 was rescheduled to take off again Monday.
"Malaysia Airlines flight MH192 that made an air turn back towards KLIA has landed safely at 1:56 am," the airline tweeted.
Gorav Puri, a 31-year-old passenger from Sweden, said he was sitting near the wing when he heard a crushing sound when the pilot tried to turn back to KLIA. "The plane had to make two turns before landing," he told news agency Press Trust India. "We were quite calm throughout. We were only scared during takeoff and when we were told to brace ourselves for landing," Puri said.
In March, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur went missing. Boeing 777-200 had 239 passengers and crew members aboard. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced that the plane crashed off the Vietnamese coast and all the passengers and crew members were feared dead.
