Chicago looks to dig out of a 2-0 hole on Monday when they host St. Louis for Game 3. The Blackhawks, though, will have to do it without defenseman Brent Seabrook. The NHL suspended Seabrook for three games in response to him elbowing Blues center David Backes in the back of the head during Saturday's Game 2 loss.

"You need his size, you need his presence and experience and his leadership," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville told the Associated Press before the suspension was handed down. "He's got the big shot on the point and he's on our power play as well. He kills penalties, so he plays all important minutes."

Backes's status for Monday is uncertain.

"All I know is he's upright, and that's about it right now," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said on Sunday. "We don't have any further information and probably won't until late tomorrow."

It's been a physical series. Game 2 had 17 combined penalties, of which Chicago was responsible for 11. Chicago forward Brandon Saad acknowledged trying to match the Blues' physicality may have thrown them out of rhythm, according to the Associated Press.

"I think a little bit we might have played into their hands, but we've got to get back to our hockey, because when we're playing that way we do a good job and that's how we win," Saad told reporters.
