Ryan Wyngarden Trial: Michigan Man Lashes Out At Judge, Detectives Before Sentencing

A man in Michigan convicted of killing his sister and brother-in-law more than 20 years ago lashed out at the judge and detectives before being sentenced to life on Tuesday.

According to USA TODAY, Ryan Wyngarden, 51, spent over an hour blaming everyone involved in the investigation and accused detectives of coercing his wife into testifying against him and filing for divorce.

"They mentally raped my wife into this," Ryan Wyngarden told the court.

Pam Wyngarden was persuaded by authorities to tell them what she knew about the killings and eventually told them she saw the bodies.

Ryan Wyngarden then accused the judge of lying.

"You're lying now. You are flat out lying," he said to Judge Jon Hulsing of Ottawa County's 20th Circuit Court, who in return threatened to duct tape his mouth if he didn't stop talking.

However, Wyngarden continued and denied any involvement in the killings of his sister, 22-year-old Gail Brink, and her husband, 28-year-old Rick Brink, in their Park Township home on November 21, 1987.

Police claimed Wyngarden was jealous of his sister and brother-in-law's success. Additionally, they argued he wanted to keep his previous sexual encounters with his sister that they had as teenagers a secret.

"There's a good chance if they'd caught the person I might of, I'm not going to say it, I would have killed the person that killed my sister," he said.

"I didn't kill my sister, and you know it," he continued, as he looked up at the ceiling.

Rick Brink's brother, Bud Brink, was satisfied with the sentence.

"All the prospects of Ryan controlling others will now be gone," he said. "Justice has been done."
