Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, told ABC News on Thursday she would support Hillary Clinton "if she runs" for president in 2016.
In 2008, Kennedy and her late uncle, U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, endorsed then-Sen. Barack Obama for president -- a significant move in the close Democratic primary, according to Reuters.
Kennedy also discussed recent news of Chelsea Clinton's pregnancy announcement.
"I know it sounds like a cliché, but two years is a really long time in politics," Kennedy said. "I'm sure she's looking forward to being a grandmother, I know she's got to decide soon. So, so you know I hope so."
In another interview with NBC News on the same day, she told Chuck Todd that Clinton would be a "great" choice.
"I would like to see her [run for President] if that's what she wants to do, I think she'd be great," she said.
As for her own political future, she did not express a desire to run for office.
"I doubt that I would ever run in the United States,"she told Todd.
At the end of the segment, Todd said Ambassador Kennedy did not seem to be the same kind of "political animal" that the rest of the Kennedys are.
"I'll be honest that she struck me as somebody who may not be as engaged in campaign politics going forward as she was in that short period of time in 2008 and 2009," he said.
