Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper left the game early Monday night after a dangerous collision with the outfield wall.
Harper chased a ball that flew over his head and ran full speed into the wall. His face smashed into the gate and he immediately fell. Team personnel rushed to his aid and tended to him for several minutes as he writhed in pain on the ground.
He eventually walked away on his own accord with a bloody chin.
The injury occurred in the fifth inning of Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Harper was focused on the ball and seemingly didn't notice the track warning before his collision.
"The ball was curving, so it was a tough play," Nationals manager Davey Johnson said after the game. "I was more worried when he wasn't moving too much. I thought he had a concussion. But fortunately he was all right."
His busted chin needed 11 stitches. The 20-year-old underwent precautionary x-rays after the game, and he was ruled not to have a concussion, according to SB Nation. He's officially listed as day-to-day with a jammed left shoulder and stitches in his chin.
His availability for Tuesday night's game is uncertain.
Harper's presence will be missed if he is unavailable for any games. He's hitting .303 with 21 RBIs and 10 home runs this season.
Washington won the first game of their series with the Dodgers, 6-2. They play Game 2 of the series on Tuesday night at 10:10 p.m. ET.
