Vikings New Stadium Features Largest Transparent Roof in The World (PHOTOS/VIDEO)

The Minnesota Vikings, along with the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) and HKS Sports & Entertainment Group, showed the public on Monday the conceptual pictures of their $975 million multi-purpose stadium.

Pictures of the future stadium showcase a sleek, stunning architectural design. The stadium will boast the "largest transparent roof in the world, and operable doors that open to the downtown skyline," according to the Vikings' official site.

"The design reflects the true story of the Minnesota community with its international style driven by climatic response and energy conservation," HKS designer Bryan Trubey said. "The interior volume makes it the most versatile, multi-use building in the country with the most advanced digital age technology."

The stadium's concept was, in part, influenced by its city. Climate, geography, technology and the history of important civic structures played a part in the stadium's design.

Minnesota's new stadium will be multifaceted and capable of hosting more kinds of events than any other large stadium in the world. Even with the stadium's versatility, Vikings fans will be closer to the field than in any other NFL stadium.

"Tonight's unveiling showcases a bold, iconic design delivered by HKS," Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf said. "Not only is this facility unique to Minnesota, but the stadium will also provide Vikings fans with the best game-day experience in the NFL, which has always been our goal."

The stadium design will be submitted now to the Minneapolis Stadium Implementation Committee and the City of Minneapolis for review.

If approved, construction for the 65,000-seat stadium will begin in October 2013 and be ready to open for the Vikings 2016 season.
