A café in California snagged headlines this week after a waitress noticed that a pancake had an image on it that looked like the face of Jesus Christ.
The pancake was ready for a customer's order when a waitress noticed the Jesus-like image, took a picture of it and showed it to the co-owner of the Cowgirl Café, the Daily Mail reported. Struck with disbelief, the owner accompanied the waitress to the pancake to see for herself. The owners believe the Jesus pancake, which was made on Good Friday, is a sign from God.
"I was very excited (and emotional) about the Jesus pancake, not only because it occurred on Good Friday, but because the night before I had said a prayer to God asking that he continue to watch over the Cowgirl Café," said Karen Hendrickson, who owns the café in Norco, California with her husband, according to the Daily Mail.
The pancake was made Good Friday morning by a cook named Rafael, the newspaper reported. What looks like a man's face with long hair and a beard appears in the pancake's center.
"To us it looks like a picture of Jesus looking down, like he's looking down over us," Gary Hendrickson, Karen's husband, told ABC News.
Karen and her husband already have a picture of the Jesus pancake displayed on a wall in the café. They intend to keep the pancake frozen in their freezer at home. Later on they will try to have it preserved permanently, ABC News reported.
Karen has admitted that she is not a deeply religious person, but that she prays regularly, the Daily Mail reported.
Though he can't understand why the face is there, Gary, whose brother was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, is touched by the blessing, ABC News reported.
"I can't explain why God acts the way he does," Gary told the station.
