Breakout the colorful wigs and dramatic makeup - the 1980s hit cartoon series, "Jem and The Holograms," will be made into a live action film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The cast for the movie was revealed Thursday via the movie's Tumblr page. Among the cast is newcomer Aubrey Peeples, who will take on the main character for her first major film role. The "Nashville" actress will star as lead character Jerrica Benton and her pink-haired rock star alter ego Jem.
Her bandmates will also be played by a group of newcomers, including actress Stefanie Scott, who will play Jem's sister Kimber and "The Fosters"' Hayley Kiyoko joins the cast as Aja. Actress Aurora Perrineau, who has appeared on "Pretty Little Liars," will play Shana.
"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director Jon M. Chu has teamed up with Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun and "Insidious" producer Jason Blum to help bring to life the classic cartoon series, which is based off the popular Hasbro toy line. The highly anticipated flick will be produced by Scooter Braun Productions, Blumhouse Productions and Chu.
The movie's Twitter page posted the first photos of the girls in character, practicing for their movie scenes. E! News reported that the remake, which has already began filming, will have a modern day appeal.
Producers said the film would be made "for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age." The script, written by Ryan Landels, centers around an orphaned teenager who becomes an online recording sensation with her rock group the Holograms.
"We want to invite you into our process to help us make our next movie, from writing music, to designing costumes, to even casting - whatever it is, we want you to be a part of our creative team," Chu said in a YouTube video about the film.
Ariana Grande, Kelly Osbourne, and Jordin Sparks have all been rumored to be linked to "Jem".
