Mark Zuckerberg’s Wax Statue To Be Unveiled At Madame Tussauds’ Grand Opening In San Francisco

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg will find a place of honor at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in San Francisco to be opened to public, June 26, 2014.

Madame Tussauds, the well renowned London-based wax museum, will be opening its new branch at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco this June. The new museum arranged a preview event, Wednesday, giving a sneak peek at the immortalized figures from different fraternities ranging from film and music to tech and sports. Among the figures at the museum will be Facebook's founder and one of the youngest CEOs in the tech industry, Mark Zuckerberg, along with renowned actor Leonardo DiCaprio and recording artist Rihanna.

Mashable took a peek inside the San Francisco's wax museum and reported that Zuckerberg's life-size wax statue was accurately created down to the last freckle. It took 20 artists three to four months to create Zuckerberg's replica, with every detail right from his casual attire to his hair closely examined. According to the report, the artists had to use photos to construct the figure as the CEO was unavailable for a sitting.

Each strand of hair was inserted by hand and took two weeks to get the exact look, Lauren Fahrer, marketing manager for Madame Tussauds San Francisco, told Mashable. The wax statue of Zuckerberg sits cross-legged and barefoot, balancing a laptop, which appears to be a Mac but has no branding. He wears jeans and a hoodie jacket on a Facebook T-shirt donated by the company, Fehrer said. The statue sits between DiCaprio's and Rihanna's standing wax figures.

Madame Tussauds wax figures have been entertaining tourists from across the world since 1963. The museum first opened in London after the founder Marie Tussaud began creating wax figures of public figures like Ben Franklin and Voltaire. The museum has expanded since, and has opened many branches in major cities worldwide.

The website of the new soon-to-be Madame Tussauds wax showroom in San Francisco lists quite a few names popularly known in their own fields of work. The museum charges $26 for adults and $20 for children aged between 4 and 12 years.

"What really makes this a unique Madame Tussauds: 35 percent of the figures are from the San Francisco Bay Area or people, like Mark Zuckerberg, who have moved to Bay Area to make their mark on the world," NBC Bay Area quoted Fahrer as saying.
