'Justice League' Movie Release Date: Zack Snyder Confirmed To Direct DC Flick Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot

It's official! Zack Snyder is slated to direct the upcoming "Justice League" movie staring Ben Affleck, Superman and Gal Gadot, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The script for the "Justice League" film is in development. Snyder is currently working on "Batman vs. Superman," which begun filming earlier in April.

"It will be a further expansion of this universe," Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman told WSJ. "'Superman vs Batman' will lead into 'Justice League.'"

WSJ reports the upcoming DC film is likely to hit theaters in 2018, but the Latino-Review claims their sources said the film will be released in the spring of 2017.

"Again, that is the rumor I am hearing. It makes sense," the Latino-Review reports. "If the President of Production is officially going on the record by saying that the movie will indeed follow 'Batman vs. Superman' then May 5, 2017 is a great date to plant a flag. Early May is now the most sought after release date in the tentpole business. I wouldn't expect confirmation until comic con at the earliest."

As for the rumors of a "Wonder Woman" movie, Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing told WSJ Warner executives are open to bring Gadot's character to life in her own film.

"That is our hope," Kroll said. "With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her."

Snyder recently talked to Forbes about seeing the Batsuit, Superman costume and Wonder Woman outfit together for the first time.

"The thing also that's really fascinating for me is that, even just in the tests we've been doing, the costumes, right? You basically have Batman and Superman - and this is without Ben [Affleck] and Henry [Cavill] in the costumes, but just like the stand-ins, just testing to see what the costumes look like," Snyder told Forbes. "And you have them standing there and they're standing in the same shot - and then we have Wonder Woman, you know, all three of them in the same shot. Even just for a test, you really have to go, 'Wow, that's crazy!'"

"Batman vs. Superman" will be released to theaters on May 6, 2016.
