Legendary singer Paul Simon and his wife, Edie Brickell, have been arrested on disorderly conduct charges.
The New York Daily News reported that the 72-year-old singer and his musician wife were taken into custody Saturday, after a disturbance occurred at Simon's New Canaan, Conn., home.
Simon has lived in the town since 2007.
New Canaan police officers familiar with the case have not provided any further details, besides a statement claiming that officials responded to a "family dispute" involving the singers.
During a news conference Monday, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said a caller from the couples' home dialed 911, but quickly hung up. Upon arrival at 8:20 p.m., officers reportedly discovered the husband and wife had sustained minor injuries, but reports did not state who was wounded in particular. Krolikowski stated that the injuries may have been a result of domestic violence.
"Investigating officers gathered information and found probable cause to arrest the below individuals," New Canaan police said. "There was aggressiveness on both sides. They're both victims and they have children involved and we're trying to be very cautious of that."
Simon and 47-year-old Brickell were released shortly after they were taken into police custody. An arraignment has been scheduled for Monday at Norwalk Superior Court. Krolikowski said the two were each given a misdemeanor summons and one of them agreed to leave for another location.
Simon married his third wife Brickell on May 30, 1992. The couple has three children.
Considered one of America's greatest songwriters, Simon has won 12 Grammys and is a member of both The Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Simon is half of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, and also works as a solo artist.
