A shooting at a FedEx facility in a Georgia airport left six people injured and the suspected shooter dead on Tuesday, Reuters.com reported.
A report of an active gunman was made around 6 a.m. at the facility in Kennesaw, Georgia -- near the Cobb County Airport and about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, according to Cobb County Police spokesman Mike Bowman.
Six shooting victims were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and officers did a full search of the premises following the incident.
"Some were able to walk off the ambulance and others are in the operating room," hospital spokesman Tyler Pearson told Reuters.
Dana Pierce, another police spokeswoman, said the gunman was found dead in the Bay Area of the facility and the weapon was discovered with him.
The names of the victims and suspected gunman have not been released.
"We are confirming that the suspect in this case is deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," police said in a statement.
Ben Hunt, a spokesman for FedEx, said the company is fully cooperating with authorities through the investigation.
"FedEx is aware of the situation," Hunt said. "Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our team members, first responders and others affected."
"This is still an active and fluid situation," Hunt said.
Michael Hogland, an employee at the FedEx warehouse, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his boss told him not to worry about arriving to work on time.
"(My boss) called me about 6 o'clock this morning saying there was a guy inside, shot the security guard," Hogland told the newspaper.
Scott Fielder, a FedEx spokesman, released a statement after the frightening incident was over.
"We can confirm that an incident occurred early Tuesday morning at a FedEx Ground facility in Kennesaw, Georgia. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends... The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy," the statement said.
