Los Angeles Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect Who Shot Woman

Police in Los Angeles fatally shot an armed man who shot a woman early Tuesday morning, ABCNews.com reported.

Authorities responded to a shooting around 1 a.m. where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound and her two young children safe. The woman was transported to a hospital and her children were rescued, ABCNews.com said.

The suspect was allegedly seen on video walking on the street with a gun in his hands. Shortly after, a SWAT team located him and began a standoff, eventually shooting the suspect.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.

Investigators have not yet discovered a motive behind the shooting.

"We don't understand the motivation, or the relationship and the reason why he did that," Sheriff's Deputy Crystal Hernandez said.

The current condition of the victim is unknown.

On Monday, a man and woman died in an apparent murder-suicide in Los Angeles.

Roland Leland, 70, allegedly attacked his wife, who was in her 40s, with an ax before fatally shooting her. He then turned the gun on himself, CBSNews.com reported.

After hearing cries for a help, a neighbor went to check on the couple in their apartment and was shot in the mouth. She was transported to the hospital and listed in critical condition, CBS said.

The neighbor's husband, Derrick Andrews, said his wife was scheduled for surgery at the hospital, where she remained in critical condition on Monday night.

"By the time I was waking up, my wife was next door already," Andrews said. "Then five minutes later, we heard gunshots."
