Motherhood looks good on Drew Barrymore.
The "Charlie's Angels" actress is the proud mother of two little girls, Olive and Frankie. But before giving birth to her second child with husband Will Kopelman earlier this month, the actress spoke to Red Magazine about her love affair with being a mother and not being ready for a babysitter.
"I am loving being a mom," Barrymore told Red Magazine. "Olive is a year and a half now, so the girls will be close together in age. We spend every weekend together."
The 39-year-old actress said being a hands-on mother is very important to her, telling the magazine that her family spends every weekend together. Friend Cameron Diaz told People that she was excited to meet the newest addition to the Barrymore family, even offering her babysitting services - if Barrymore will ever allow it.
"We don't have a babysitter," she said. "It's just us. I can't wait to see how that's going to work out with the second one."
While talking about being a mother, the actress revealed that parenthood has made her question her own father's absence even more.
"My parents split up before I was born and my dad was just never capable of being a father," she said. "It's something I really accepted and became okay with early on. But it's shocking to me that someone can make that choice. As much as I accepted it with him, I could never accept it in a partner...for some people showing up is just not possible and that is incredibly frustrating. When you become a parent, and think about what kids need, it is very emotional."
In addition to being a mother, Barrymore revealed that she is working on getting rid of the nickname "Mrs. Takeout" by cooking more for her family. During her pregnancy, she attended culinary school in Napa Valley with her celebrity best friends Diaz and Reese Witherspoon. The actress has plans to go to cooking school in the summer.
She told the magazine: "I really love cooking, it makes me so happy. But I'm terrible at it... I'm really working on it. None of it is effortless or sexy or even tastes that good for that matter, but I'm really working on it. I might travel somewhere to do it, and bring the family. I love cooking for Olive now, but I used to be Mrs. Takeout...I've just never learned to cook in my life...Cameron's a great cook, and always has been. I'm just trying to catch up to that."
