Rumors abound with possible destinations for free agent linebacker Brian Urlacher. The Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos are the latest teams linked to Urlacher.
A column by Michael Sneed in the Chicago Sun-Times (via Sporting News) said on Tuesday that Urlacher has been in talks with the Vikings and Broncos. The column also cited a source close to Urlacher as saying the 34-year-old veteran is leaning toward NFC North rival Minnesota.
While the Broncos have neither confirmed nor denied the report, Vikings' coach Leslie Frazier said on Wednesday that his team wasn't interested in Urlacher.
"Brian has been a great player in our league for a long, long time," Frazier said Wednesday morning on "NFL AM". "He was a thorn in our side for many years. At this point we want to look at the guys on our roster, give them a chance to compete for the middle linebacker position then see where it takes us."
Minnesota's perceived need at middle linebacker made them a rumored destination for the eight-time Pro Bowler, but Frazier's admission on Wednesday suggests that the job is Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson's to lose.
Urlacher, the No. 9 pick of the 2000 NFL draft, spent 13 seasons with Chicago before unceremoniously departing in March.
His days in Chicago appeared numbered after the front office fired Lovie Smith in December and brought in a new coaching regime. He refused Chicago's offer of a $1.6 million contract in March and remains a free agent.
Urlacher's career resume includes 1,353 total tackles, 12 forced fumbles and 22 interceptions.
