College Football Player, Jermane Darnell Clark, Fatally Shot In Greensboro

A football player at North Carolina A&T University was fatally shot outside of his Greensboro home on Tuesday night, the Kansas City Star reported.

Authorities believe Jermane Darnell Clark, 22, was shot and killed after one or two people approached him and began an argument. Though Capt. Mike Richey said police do not have a motive or know what caused the argument, they do not believe he was robbed.

Clark was transported to Moses Cones Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the Star said.

The shooting did not involve NC A&T University, Richey added. Following news of Clark's death, school officials said counselors would be available for the community.

Mourners took to social media sites like Twitter to express their grief over the death of a fellow student.

"R.I.P to our fallen Aggie Jermane Darnell Clark," read several tweets.

"No words. I know those pretty brown eyes are watching over us all. I love you Jermane Darnell Clark..." another user said.

On Monday, the university was placed on lockdown after reports of a gunman on campus.

Samantha Hargrove, a spokeswoman for the university, said campus police received a call about a gunman in the General Classroom Building at 9:57 a.m.

By 10:15 a.m., an alarm was blaring on campus to alert students and faculty of the situation, FoxNews.com said. Additionally, police continued searching the buildings for any suspects.

However, the lockdown was lifted and classes resumed after authorities did not locate a gunman.

North Carolina A&T University, located east of Greensboro, is one of the nation's historically black colleges with an undergraduate population of over 10,000 students.
