Menachem Stark Update: Police Question 3 Suspects In Death Of Brooklyn Landlord

Police in New York City are questioning three suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a Brooklyn landlord, the New York Post reported.

The body of Menachem Stark, 32, was found on Jan. 3 -- one day after he was kidnapped.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said investigators hope to close the case by Wednesday.

"The pace of the investigation has accelerated over the last 24 hours and hopefully will continue to accelerate over the next 24 hours to its conclusion," Bratton said during an appearance with Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson.

"The District Attorney and I would hope to be in a position in the very near term to be to give you more specifics as to the status of the case but at the moment I'm going to have to leave it that it's accelerating and it's moving in a very quick direction," Bratton said.

The names of the suspects have not been released.

Officials believe the attack was intended to be a robbery and not a murder, which they mentioned was influenced by personal finances.

"They knew him from the neighborhood, for owning a lot of buildings and having money," an unidentified law enforcement source told the Post.

Rabbi David Niederman, head of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg, said the community was relieved hearing suspects were taken into custody.

"We are extremely happy and hope that those who committed this crime will finally be charged and formally arrested," Niederman said.

Brooklyn City Councilman David Greenfield thanked the NYPD for their work in rounding up suspects.

"The callous murder of Menachem Stark shocked not just the Jewish community, but all people of good conscience. Certainly, his family can have no peace until every person responsible for this depraved crime is brought to justice," Greenfield said.

"We will now have to work hard to make sure that these murderers never see the light of day again."
