A Good Samaritan was stabbed to death on Sunday after chasing a man who attacked and robbed a woman in California, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The incident occurred when Troy Cansler, 47, ran after Vincent DeLeon, 26, after he saw DeLeon attack 26-year-old Krystina Hanrahan in the parking lot of a grocery store.
At 9:37 p.m., San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were called to the Stater Bros. parking lot and found Hanrahan, who was with her daughter, suffering from stab wounds, the Times said.
Hanrahan told authorities that a man attacked her and stole her purse, and that a total stranger -- Cansler -- came to her aid and began chasing the robber.
Investigators claim Cansler caught up with DeLeon, who fatally stabbed him near 4th Street and Yucaipa Boulevard. DeLeon was arrested shortly after, according to the Times.
Hanrahan was stabbed five times but is expected to survive. She described Cansler as an angel.
"I spoke to his mother today and I said thank you for raising someone who would put their life on the line," Hanrahan told the Times.
Jordyn Glazier, Cansler's 12-year-old daughter, talked about how proud she was.
"I'm very proud," said Glazier. "He was everything I could ask for in a dad ... everything and more."
A Facebook page was created in memory of Cansler.
"I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but in his bravery he saved my cousin, so he will always be in my prayers!!!" wrote Lisa Wagner Hasty.
Several other posts called him a "true hero," "beautiful soul," and "wonderful man."
