Authorities announced the arrest of one man in the kidnapping and murder of a Brooklyn landlord, NBCNews.com reported.
Kendel Felix, 26, was one of three suspects brought in for questioning on Wednesday. He later admitted to the gruesome crime and was charged with second-degree murder.
Menachem Stark was found dead on Jan. 2 in a Long Island dumpster. In surveillance footage, he was seen being forced into a minivan by two men in Williamsburg after leaving work.
Police believe the incident was a murder gone wrong and only intended to be a robbery.
"They knew him from the neighborhood, for owning a lot of buildings and having money," an unidentified law enforcement source told the Post.
The names of the other two suspects have not been released.
Investigators announced a break in the case on Wednesday and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said he hopes to have it closed soon.
"The pace of the investigation has accelerated over the last 24 hours and hopefully will continue to accelerate over the next 24 hours to its conclusion," Bratton said during an appearance with Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson.
"The District Attorney and I would hope to be in a position in the very near term to be to give you more specifics as to the status of the case but at the moment I'm going to have to leave it that it's accelerating and it's moving in a very quick direction."
Rabbi David Niederman, head of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg, said the community was relieved hearing suspects were taken into custody.
"We are extremely happy and hope that those who committed this crime will finally be charged and formally arrested," Niederman said.
Brooklyn City Councilman David Greenfield thanked the NYPD for their work in rounding up suspects.
"The callous murder of Menachem Stark shocked not just the Jewish community, but all people of good conscience. Certainly, his family can have no peace until every person responsible for this depraved crime is brought to justice," Greenfield said.
"We will now have to work hard to make sure that these murderers never see the light of day again."
