Yahoo Screen Mobile App Released for Android

Yahoo's new video streaming mobile app Yahoo Screen is now available on Android devices.

The app was first released last September for the iPhone and iPad, according to TechCrunch.

Yahoo Screen includes programming from SNL, Comedy Central, MLB, Vogue, The Onion, NBC News and other sources of entertainment.

Yahoo revealed the news in a post to its Tumblr account, Android Authority reported.

"The video app that allows you to watch the best Saturday Night Live skits, Comedy Central clips, and more on your mobile device, is now available on Android," the company said.

Users can change channels on the app by swiping up and down. Users can also swipe left and right to move between videos, TechCrunch reported.

The announcement was made just a couple of days after Yahoo revealed its first two original shows, "Other Space" and "Sin City Saints." The first show is being worked on by the creator of "Freaks and Geeks," while the second focuses on a vet of Silicon Valley and his goal of creating a professional basketball team in Las Vegas. These two shows kick-off Yahoo's lineup of new, original TV series, all of which will be available on Yahoo Screen, Apple TV and Roku next year.

Yahoo also recently made an agreement with Live Nation, which is set to stream 365 live concerts starting later this summer for a 12-month period, Android Authority reported.

The company has additionally struck up a deal with Vevo that brings its live concerts, videos and other programming to Yahoo Screen. Not only will full performances be available, but over 1,000 songs from the live shows will also be chosen for on-demand streaming throughout the year. A large range of exclusive and behind-the-scenes videos with bands are included in the performances.

Yahoo is looking to have these changes help its video offerings compete with other companies that are getting involved in original programming and exclusive content deals, TechCrunch reported.

Competitors include Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Google and Microsoft.
