Hulu is working with Pizza Hut on a new advertisement that allows users to order a pie straight from the ad.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at the company's Hulu Upfront presentation in New York, according to VentureBeat. The ad is part of Hulu's move toward strengthening its ad products.
Hulu revealed during the presentation that its users watch an average of 50 minutes of video every time they log in.
The ad uses the website's interactive advertising system and combines it with Pizza Hut's online ordering system, CNN reported.
Mike Hopkins, the chief executive of Hulu, promoted the Pizza Hut ad campaign at the event, calling the ad an "in-stream purchase unit." Hopkins also said it could be used by other advertisers to start product sales in the future.
The ads will be targeted towards specific audiences, The Washington Post reported.
The ads will also appear on different platforms including desktop, mobile and inter-connected TV. Hulu is looking to offer free content on mobile devices supported by advertising as part of its plan to get involved in the mobile market.
Using this new service, counsumers would be able to place an order for pickup or delivery during the commercial, then resume watching where they left off. The company said Hulu Plus, the paid version of Hulu, has over six million subscribers, The Washington Post reported.
Hopkins also promoted the company's 360-degree ads for mobile services. The example he showed involved a car company allowing a user to look up, down and around the driver's seat of the car with a smartphone, CNN reported.
Hulu is owned by Fox and NBC, the parent companies of ABC. Unlike Netflix and Amazon Prime's ad-free services, Hulu features advertisements on both its free and paid streaming services. While Hulu's free service is only available on desktop computers, Hulu Plus is available on phones, tablets and other devices. The company said it is looking to have its free service work on phones this summer.
