The rivalry between Montreal and Boston begins a new chapter on Thursday when they meet in the second round of the postseason.
"There's been a rivalry between these two teams way before I was ever here and before I ever even knew about hockey," Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges told the Associated Press. "These are two great organizations that have a lot of pride."
Bruins coach Claude Julien, who previously coached Montreal, also spoke about the rivalry between the two teams.
"I hated Boston when I was in Montreal and now I hate Montreal because I'm in Boston. It's a lot of fun," Julien said. "... It's more about controlled emotions. It's making sure that the rivalry is what it is, but that your game remains under control."
Montreal is coming off a first-round sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning, where Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher scored a team-high three goals.
One area of concern for Boston is the speed of Montreal's forwards, who will be difficult for Boston to matchup against.
"They've got some speedy forwards," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said. "Despite the common belief that speed kills, I think we've shown that we have some speed and we have some size and we have experience. So it will be a challenge, but, I think, we'll overcome that challenge."
Boston advanced to the second round after beating the Detroit Red Wings in five games. Bruins winger Milan Lucic led Boston in scoring with three goals.
