Hugh Jackman Leaving Wolverine Behind? Actor Is '99.9% Sure' the Next Movie Will Be His Last (VIDEO)

Hold on to your Wolverine catalogs and action figures, because this may be the end of the claw-wielding mutant.

Hugh Jackman, who has portrayed Wolverine in seven "X-Men" films and two individual spinoff films, revealed that the third installment of Wolverine could be his last, The Wrap reported. Jackman sat down with SFX magazine to talk about "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and was later questioned on the future of his mutant character and the rumors surrounding a possible sequel.

The Australian actor said he is "99.9 percent sure" that the sequel to "The Wolverine" might be the final time he suits up as the character.

"I still am very ambitious for the character," Jackman told SFX Magazine. "And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I'm 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me."

According to The Wrap, if the sequel is given a green light, Jackman will reportedly work with director James Mangold to develop a sequel. Following last summer's block buster hit, Jackman made it clear that he would not sign on unless the script was better than the last film.

"I'm excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven't signed on," Jackman told SFX. "I'm genuinely at that point where unless it's better than the last one I'm not going to do it."

The actor continued: "I think it has to be better. I can still see where we can improve on the last one. I love the intimacy of that story, I liked the small stuff, I liked that it was a little unexpected. I don't want to get into specifics, because it just upsets people, but there are certain parts of that story where I felt we were predictable. And I don't think you need to do that with Wolverine."

Last year, "Wolverine" grossed over $414.8 million worldwide. Bryan Singer's has already signed on to direct the next "X-Men" movie, which is set for a May 2016 release. "X-Men: Days of Future Past" on May 23.
