Google has updated its Search app for Android to be able to help people find their cars after they have forgotten where it is.
Announced on Thursday, the update gives the Google Now personal assistant a card that reminds the user where their car is, according to CNET.
The ability to record the location depends on the GPS of the user's phone, along with recent improvements to Google Now.
The search giant updated its support pages with instructions on how to use the search app, PC Magazine reported.
"When the card shows up in Google Now, you'll see an indicator showing the approximate location of your car," Google said. "To see other locations where you recently parked, touch 'previous locations'. Your location data for parking location cards isn't shared with anyone else."
The company wrote in a Google+ post that the update is being released now for Google Search app users, CNET reported.
Google stated in its Parking Location FAQ that the update relies on "your devices sensors to know when you leave a moving vehicle," meaning parking location cards could appear in Google Now after a user leaves a friend's car, or after a user gets off a bus.
Google acknowledged that the feature does not always work, adding users may see a parking location card appear even if they did not park their cars, PC Magazine reported.
Android Police was the first to discover the update, after analyzing Google's latest update to the Google Search App, which was released Wednesday. The feature can be downloaded now from Android Police.
Android Police reported the update in early April, when the feature was only a rumor, The Huffington Post reported.
Android Authority's Andrew Gush said the results of the feature are hit or miss at best, but added that he hopes the service can be improved with future updates.
