George Clooney, Fiancée Amal Alamuddin: Actor Proposed with $750K Ring, Couple to Get Married in ‘a Few Months’?

Last week 52-year-old George Clooney proposed to his girlfriend Amal Alamuddin. The 36-year-old human rights lawyer was spotted showing off a very impressive diamond ring while the two were dining with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber.

According to reports, news of the engagement broke after the couple was overheard sharing the announcement with a friend at the restaurant. Clooney and Alamuddin have not publicly confirmed they are engaged but the actor's parents and Alamuddin's law firm said it's true.

"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr George Clooney on their engagement to be married," a statement from the firm read.

Nick Clooney told TMZ that he and his wife "are thrilled... my wife and I are absolutely thrilled... we are excited for both of them. Amal is a very lovely girl."

Recently, details surrounding Alamuddin's engagement ring and the proposal have been revealed. According to the New York Post's Page Six (via the Daily Mail), the "Gravity" actor decided on a low key proposal. A source told the newspaper that Clooney popped the question at his Studio City, Calif. home over a home cooked meal.

"George cooked a meal himself for Amal at home on Apr. 22, then he surprised her by getting down on bended knee and presenting her with the ring," the source said.

"He was so happy she accepted, he was calling friends with the news later that night," the source added.

According to E! News, Clooney presented the lawyer with a 7-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring set in platinum. Jeweler Jean Dousett told E! that he thinks the ring cost around $750,000.

"Typically the very best and purist rough diamonds are reserved for emerald diamonds," he said adding that it was a "sophisticated" selection.

A source told People magazine that Clooney helped design the ring. As far as any wedding details, it's not clear if Alamuddin has already started planning her big day but a source told Page Six that the couple could tie-the-knot in a "few months," saying that a September wedding is definitely a possibility.
