A man in Kentucky was charged in the murder of his brother, whose dead body was discovered along a highway and appeared to be dragged by a car, MySanAntonio.com reported.
Vernon Saunders, 56, is facing charges of murder, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse after his brother, 51-year-old Timothy Saunders, was found dead on Sunday.
Versaille Police Capt. Daniel Clark said the man's body was found on Kentucky 33 in Woodford County by a passing driver around 6 a.m. Officers were lead to the home of Vernon Saunders after collecting evidence, Clark told reporters.
The body appeared to have been dragged by a car for about a mile, WTVQ-TV said. A coroner said they don't know if Timothy Saunders was dead before he was dragged down the road.
After a three-hour standoff with authorities, Vernon Saunders was arrested.
"It's very disturbing," cyclist Eric Smart told the local station. "You hardly ever see anyone out here. It's so quiet and rural, which makes it a good place to cycle."
Another cyclist, Daniel Royster, also expressed his disbelief upon hearing the story.
"It's pretty shocking," said Royster. "It's hard to believe that stuff happens even here in this area."
According to authorities, the younger Saunders brother lived in Florida and was in Kentucky to visit.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
It remains unclear if Vernon Saunders has legal representation. He is currently being held in Woodford County Jail.
