Cody Simpson and Gigi Hadid have called it quits, just two weeks after appearing together at the 2014 Radio Disney Music Awards in LA.
E! News reported that Australian pop singer and his model girlfriend ended their relationship Thursday, after nearly a year of dating. A source told Just Jared that the couple has been on and off, trying to make their relationship work and that the split was "amicable and they'll remain best friends."
"Their busy schedules and living on opposite coasts have made it nearly impossible for the two of them to give the relationship the attention that it needs," a representative for the 17-year-old singer said in a statement. "They decided that rather than let things sour that they split up in hopes that their lives might someday bring them back together. They remain close friends and will continue to show their support for one and other."
Simpson has recently been busy on "Dancing With The Stars" and working on his upcoming album. A source said 19-year-old Hadid has been picking up modeling jobs - most recently, he was featured in last month's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. He's also slated to star in Miguel's latest music video.
Hadid, who is the daughter of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Yolanda Foster, is also featured in Simpson's latest music video "Surfboard." In the video the former couple shares a few intimate scenes, including playing around on a beach and lounging around on a surfboard.
"Getting to hang with my best friend all day," Hadid tweeted after the video shoot.
"That's not usually something that I like to do, I try to keep my personal life and my public kind of life separate, but I thought why not mix it too?" Simpsonsaid about getting Hadid involved in the music video, according to Us Weekly. "Any girl that I'm with at the time is obviously inspiring music that I'm making at that time. It was going to be a kind of sexy video so why not get something that's like natural chemistry?"
