Mel Gibson could have a clear record again.
The "Lethal Weapon" actor's battery conviction, which he received after hitting former partner Oksana Grigorieva, will reportedly be erased from his record, according to RadarOnline. In 2011, Gibson pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence involving Grigorieva, a Russian musician with whom he has a daughter.
The Oscar winner's lawyers have filed documents, asking the judge to expunge the no-contest plea from the actor-director's record. A hearing has been scheduled for the actor. If he chooses to withdraw his plea, the case will be dismissed and erased from his criminal records.
In 2010, Grigorieva accused Gibson of punching her in the mouth during a heated argument, but the 58-year actor said that he only slapped her because she was shaking their daughter's body.
"I slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality," Gibson said at the time. "I did not slap her hard. I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth."
Grigorieva obtained a restraining order against Gibson and the actor was sentenced to three years of probation, 16 hours of community service, a fine, a year of counseling. A judge also ordered the actor to maintain peace with Grigorieva, the mother of his five-year-old daughter, Lucia.
The actor's legal team said that Gibson has completed his sentence following the battery case. Gibson is also reportedly seeking more custody of his daughter.
In 2006, Gibson was arrested for drunken driving and made anti-Semitic remarks to a police officer. He later publicly apologized for his behavior. Gibson and Robyn, his wife of 26 years, divorced the same. The longtime couple is the parents of seven children.
