Jimmy Kimmel isn't going anywhere for the next two years.
ABC announced Tuesday that Kimmel has renewed his "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" contract for two more years, extending his stay on the network until January 2017, according to the New York Times. Kimmel is currently in his 11th season of the late night show, which was moved to the 11:35 p.m. time slot last year, after swapping places with "Nightline."
The show features a diverse lineup of guests, including celebrities, athletes, musicians and comedians. Kimmel has welcomed Martin Scorsese, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Ellen Degeneres, Channing Tatum, Shaquille O'Neal and many more to his stage.
The Times stated that Kimmel has gained "special attention for some special comedy pieces that have become hits on the Internet," including the "Worst Twerk Fail Ever" video, which turned out to be an elaborate hoax planned by Kimmel. The video received more than 16 million views on YouTube.
This past season, there was a 16 percent spike in viewership, making it the fourth year Kimmel has increased his audience.
Late night television has experienced a major shift in the recent past, putting the 46-year-old comedian in competition with several other late night television hosts. Earlier this year, David Letterman announced his retirement from the "Late Show". CBS later announced that Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert would be filling the slot.
Last month, Craig Ferguson, host of "The Late Late Show" since 2005 announced that he would be leaving at the end of the year, after almost a decade of hosting. No replacement has been named for his spot.
Following Jay Leno's exit from the "Tonight Show," Jimmy Fallon took up residence on the NBC stage. He's reportedly dominated ratings since his mid-February debut. Chelsea Handler will also be leaving her late night show on the E! network at the end of the year.
