The Samsung Galaxy S4 has taken off extremely well since its launch and is on pace to be Samsung’s best selling smartphone, according to Forbes.
Samsung announced 4 million sales during it’s the weekend the phone was launched. The following week the company shipped another 2 million phones.
So far Galaxy S4 sales have reached 5 million units.
Samsung has worked the fastest to supply the GS4 worldwide than it has with any other phone, according to Chosunilo, a Korean based news organization with an English language edition.
Samsung shipped 4 million units worldwide in just five days. This is in comparison to the 85 days it took to ship 3 million of the first Galaxy S, 55 days to ship the same amount for the GS2 and 21 days for the GS3.
According to the source, as of May 10 the company has sold 6 million units of its latest Galaxy S installment. The company believes it “could break the 10-million mark by as early as the end of this month."
So how does this stack up with the GS4’s fiercest competitor the iPhone 5?
When the phone debuted in October it sold 5 million units during its first weekend—lower than the 8-10 units it was expected to sell according to Forbes.
However, with combined sales of the 5 and 4S, Apple began to embarrass the competition. Apple sold 27.4 million units of the iPhone 5 and added another 17.4 million sales of the iPhone 4s all in the last quarter of 2012. The GS3 sold 15.4 million.
If the Galaxy S4 does in fact reach 10 million unit sales in five weeks it will definitely be Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone. However, that would not be enough to beat Apple’s record.
Regardless, Samsung still has some big plans for the GS4 in the future.
