David Beckham Retires: Football Legend Will Call It Quits After Final 2 Matches Of Season With Paris Saint-Germain

David Beckham announced on Thursday he will retire from football at the end of the season. Beckham, 38, retires after winning the Ligue 1 title last week with Paris Saint-Germain.

Two games remain for Beckham and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

"(I am) thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level," Beckham said in a statement.

Winning the Ligue 1 title on Sunday marked the fourth country that Beckham has won a title with. Beckham began his professional career in 1993 with Manchester United. Between 1993 and 2003, Beckham won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and one UEFA Champions League title.

Beckham played 115 games for England's national team — a record for a player other than a goalie, according to the Associated Press. He also won titles with Real Madrid and the Los Angeles Galaxy.

"If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for an won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over one hundred times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy," Beckham said. "I'm fortunate to have realized those dreams.

"I want to thank all my teammates, the great managers that I had the pleasure of learning from," he said. "I also want to thank the fans who have all supported me and given me the strength to succeed."

Beckham's final two games are on May 18 against Brest and May 26 against Lorient.
