"Divergent" actor Mekhi Phifer filed for bankruptcy in April, according to court documents obtained by "Entertainment Tonight." The 39-year-old actor best known for his role as Dr. Greg Pratt on NBC's "ER" from 2002 to 2008, reportedly filed for Chapter 11 protection.
Court records show that Phifer accumulated over $1.2 million in back taxes, $50,000 lawyer fees and $4,500 in back child support. The actor has two sons; Omikaye with ex-wife Malinda Williams and Mekhi, Jr. with ex-girlfriend Oni Souratha.
The "8 Mile" actor reportedly spends around $11,600 in monthly expenses, but pulls in a mere $7,500. He owes $1.3 million in debt, with just $67,000 in assets, including a leather bed, a shotgun, two 9mm handguns and a 12-year-old Segway valued at $1,500.
Phifer career is reportedly picking up slightly - most recently, he snagged a recurring role on the Showtime series, "House of Lies." He will reprise his role as Max in the "Divergent" sequel, "Insurgent," scheduled for a 2015 release.
Phifer joins "Meet The Fockers" actress Teri Polo, who also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April. Polo owes nearly $772,000 in income tax and $37,000 in credit card debt. However, the actress claims to have less than $50,000 in assets, according to her petition filed on April 14.
Former Nickelodeon child star Drake Bell recently filed for bankruptcy as well, claiming to be $581,000 in debt. The actor reportedly earns $2,820 a month, but his expenses run up to $18,771 a month. Bell listed his house and $10,500 in personal property, but has debts of about $1.597 million. He also owes more than $46,000 to the IRS.
